Eve speaks with Dr. Lisa Fredman, who just published a Hebrew book on medieval commentator Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki (Rashi)’s manuscripts on Mishlei-Proverbs. She combined her interest in the history of the Middle Ages with her love of Tanach which led her to unique research on one of the lesser known books of the Bible. Did the context of the concurrent Crusades affect the great Rashi’s insights? How did he see his role as a leader of the Jewish people in a heavily Christian world? Is ‘Proverbs’ relevant today? With all that has been done in Bible study, there is still room for original research with modern tools.
