Original Hebrew מן המצר קראתי יה, ענני במרחב יה לא אמות כי אחיה, ואספר מעשה יה English Translation From my distress I called on the Lord. The Lord answered me and set me free. I will not die, but live and I will tell what the Lord has done. This song came to me in the hardest time of my life, while moving my family to the deepest settlement in the Judean mountains. It was my expression of pain reaching out and hoping for triumph. Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk taught, “Three ways are open to man who is in sorrow. He who stands on a normal rung weeps, he who stands higher is silent, but he who stands of the topmost rung converts his sorrow into song.”
