The Arugot Farm
Our Vision is to create a new model Judean community that will inspire a Renaissance in Jewish living that will protect settle and revive the Judean desert by transforming Judea into a global destination.
Chavat Arugot (The Arugot Farm) is inspired by and founded upon the spirit of the Tanach, Hebrew Bible, and guided by the visions and dreams of the prophets of Israel. To live as the nation of Israel in the land of Israel by the Torah of Israel, “each man under his vineyard and his fig tree,” deeply connected to the earth and nature.
At the heart of this renewal is music and prayer, Ahavat Yisrael (love of Israel) and Hachnasat Orchim (welcoming guests). Established around an organic farm, life is deeply connected to the land of Israel and our labor of love is to work the land and beautify Judea.
Where are we?
Walking through these Judean mountains is walking through Jewish history. In the Tanach this area is called the wilderness of Zif. It was here that King David retreated when he escaped from King Saul before he became king. According to the Midrash most of the book of Psalms was written before David became king in these very mountains.
The cliffs and hills that surround us are imbued with a unique transcendental energy that one must experience to believe. The views from the mountain tops overlooking the Dead Sea are breath taking and mystifying. It seems as though every person who encounters these sacred mountains, valleys, and caves is deeply touched.
The largest and most majestic cave on the property is surrounded by ancient shards of pottery, some of which date back more than 2000 years. Half of the ceiling of the cave is coated black by ancient fire from the days of Bar Kochba and Rabbi Akiva. Walking into the cave is walking in the footsteps of King David, the Maccabees, and Bar Kochva. Even more profound, however, is the experience of taking the next step into the Jewish future and into the destiny of Israel.
When we first arrived on location 4 years ago, it was a barren dry abandoned piece of land with nothing other than rocks and desert thorns. There was no road, no water or electrical infrastructure, not a single tree or building and practically no wildlife. Today there are more than 4500 fruit trees, 3 vineyards and more than a 1000 vines, a flock of sheep and an ecological pool. We are quite literally transforming this desert mountain into a garden of Eden like Oasis.
In the very mountains that Amos received his prophecy, we are manifesting it into reality. “Behold days are coming… when I will return the captivity of my people Israel and they will build wasted cities and settle them, they will plant vineyards and drink their wine and plant gardens and eat of their fruit. I will plant them upon their Land and they will never be removed from their Land again.”

Pioneering Zionism and Settling the Land
In modern Israel we are the deepest Jewish community in Southeastern Gush Etzion, Judea. This land was zoned in the early eighties for agriculture and tourism with the strategic geopolitical purpose of connecting all four Jewish settlements in the region and establishing a new block of Jewish communities deeper into the mountains. For decades the land remained abandoned and unproductive under constant threat from Bedouin squatters. This area that was zoned for agriculture and tourism is the most strategic and critical area to be developed today in Gush Etzion.
Just as king David battled for Israel’s security and Bar Kochba and Rabbi Akiva continued the struggle for freedom and liberation against the Roman occupation, today we continue the struggle for the rights of the Jewish People to live as a free people in Judea.
Our goal is to bring hundreds of thousands of visitors throughout Israel and the world and transform Judea from a politically unstable and contested region into a global destination.
In coordination with 3 Israeli municipalities and the Israeli government spearheaded by the ministry of tourism once, Chavat Arugot, the model community is completed we will coordinate the establishment of similar agricultural-tourist based farm with unique boutique hotels, hostels and camp grounds from the Judean mountains through the Judean desert all the way to the Dead Sea.
